From Betsy:

Poetry’s a portal
I walk through,
where I scratch
scabs to find
forgotten memories,
where I tickle
kids with
tiny details,
where I even
wake up
teens with no
interest in writing,
whatsoever.
‘Cause poetry
can do that.
‘Cause poetry’s a portal
anyone can walk
through.

I’ve used the poems in these books as springboards for poetry writing, in mainstream, Special Ed, ESL, and creative writing classrooms:
Mathematickles!
You Hear Me? poems and writing by teenage boys
Things I Have to Tell You, poems and writing by teenage girls
Falling Hard, 100 love poems by teens
Metamorphosis, Junior Year
