Blog World & New Media Expo!

blog worldI am so excited to announce that I’ll be speaking at this year’s Blog World! I’ll be on a panel hosted by Pat Flynn (and you know how much I love him) and…wait for it…wait for it…

I’ve been asked to produce a panel on women in podcasting!

Who was the fabulous person responsible for inviting me? The one and only Podcast Answerman, Cliff Ravenscraft, who is running the podcasting thread at the conference! Thank you Cliff! I’m honored.

And now for the giveaway: I need a funny, informative, and enticing title for the women in podcasting panel. I’m still in recon mode, culling a list of fantastic and brilliant podcasters to invite, and I don’t have my agenda completely gelled yet though I do want to focus on the unique issues and benefits women have in podcasting, positive and negative.

Giveaway time!

I need to submit a title and description to Cliff by March 30. Submit your idea for a title for this panel in the comments to this post, and if I use it or any part of it, you will get the prize! Please spread the word, too!

Winner chooses the prize!

I will give away one digital product of my from my products page, winner to choose which one he or she wants!

2011 Cybil Awards!

I’m so proud to finally be able to announce this! I have been asked to be a 2011 Cybils judge! Last year I was a picture book judge, but this year I’ll be a judge on the Easy Reader/Early Chapter Book panel. The definition of an ER/ECB is:

The first thing that stands out about books in these two genres is their shape. They’re sized for their audience to hold while reading aloud (roughly 6 x 9 inches). Think for reading by nine, and you can visualize this K through 3 audience. Other helpful hints:

Easy Readers usually have a banner and some form of reading level on the cover. They have short, simple sentences presented in BIG type fonts. In an Easy Reader, the images are usually in full color and are designed to help the child decode the words in the text.

Early Chapter Books are like traditional chapter books, but thinner / fewer pages. Their chapters are short (usually 3-6 pages), are illustrated (usually black and white), and have wide spacing between lines.

Thanks in advance to our Round 1 Panelists for winnowing down the list that we will vote on. Please check out their blogs!

I Never Do This

(That is, ask for favors.)

If you’ve ever learned something about the business from my newsletters, blog, podcasts, or videos would you consider helping me? (by September 30)

The nominated podcasts on PodcastAwards.com will have 40,000,000 views, if last year is any indication. I’m not asking you to vote. Just nominate. It’s easy & it would help get my podcast seen (and then heard) by more people thereby further spreading The Gospel of Kidlit.

Step 1: Click here to get to the podcast awards nomination page.
Step 2: In first row, under PEOPLES CHOICE and in the 4th row down on the left, in the EDUCATION category, enter Brain Burps About Books where it says “Podcast name”.
Step 3: Under that, where it says “Podcast URL” enter http://BrainBurpsAboutbooks.com
Step 4: Enter your details at the bottom, hit submit and you’re done.

That is all.

If you can do this, and do it by the September 30 deadline, I thank you.

2011 Moby Awards: the best & worst book trailers

We didn’t win but I did discover that out of almost 100 submissions, we made the top five nominees! And we were up against trailers made with big budgets by big publishers. And we lost to Lane Smith, which is a worthy loss!

On our way to Brooklyn…

Moby Awards

Under the heading of I Love Seeing Friends’ Books in Stores!

Jim Averbeck's book!

A panel of celebrity judges will be awarding the golden whales for the best and worst trailers, best performance by an author, worst performance by an author, and best cameo performance, as well as best foreign book trailer, bloodiest book trailer, trailer with the most annoying music, and many more TBD based on quality or lack thereof.
