Why Writing is like Yoga

I love The Creative Penn (wish my last name were Penn. I’d even be happy with Pencil. Katie Pencil. Has a ring to it, no?) Anyway, Joanna Penn has a lovely video here relating yoga to writing. Both have a zen quality to it, though I never feel like screaming and tearing out my hair while doing yoga, nevertheless, even if you don’t agree, you gotta love the accent.

Thank you, Ms. Penn, for once again starting my day out with a knowledge nuggett I’ll think about all day.

I can't believe I got a message from YOU, and never saw it until today. Wonder why – but in any case, thrilled to hear from you, and thank you for all your great posts. Maybe I could get you to come on my podcast? We'd have a blast, I'm sure.

    Hi Katie,
Thanks so much for posting my video. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It was really my first time having a decent go at yoga and it was brilliant. Unfortunately the yoga studio back home doesn't have a view of the jungle!
Penn is my real name as well! I can't believe I spent so long putting off writing before embracing it 🙂
    Thanks, Joanna

What a great correlation to make. I practice both writing and yoga and find both to be challenging. This was a great perspective on how to approach both. I find the main thing I have learned from both is patience.

Katie, this was a great video. I loved how she took all these lessons from yoga and applied them to being a writer!
