One of the things I struggle when writing longer fiction is pacing. In my picture books this isn’t a problem for me. The page turn supports the drama – I often say that the mere physical act of turning a page is like a punchline. Watching this video made me think of pacing. It’s long at over 5 minutes, but it’s very sweet, amusing and apparently lots of people love it because it has something like a half million views on YouTube. The music supports the drama, and as writers we can’t rely on that, but take a look and tell me if you learned anything about pacing from the story within the pages of this flipbook.
