I don’t want any of you to be sick, but I now know what that phrase “misery loves company” means. It is somewhat comforting to know that millions of people across the country know exactly how I’ve been feeling over the last 9 days. Yes, 9. I haven’t taken that many naps since I was in diapers. The good news is that for the first time I will have seen all five of the Best Picture noms in time for the Oscars. I watched Atonement the other day with my fabulous pair of prism glasses (you can lie flat on your back and see the TV – great for someone who cannot find a comfy position after so long in bed!)

Back to Atonement. I thought it was going to be a movie about Yom Kippur, but apparently, no. At first I thought it was kind of slow and boring but I got into it, and found it very interesting after all. And it has stuck with me, and for me, that’s something. Now I’m questioning lots of things and if you have seen it, read on.

I’m going to go back and put the DVD on slo mo to check the dates, but is the whole thing a fantasy? I mean, if you know when each person died, then you’ll know at what point Briony made everything up. Did the two lovers see each other ever again after he was put in prison? How repulsive was that Briony, and what an unreliable narrator! A real interesting thing to think about as a writer!
