Literature is a Carnival!

Before I get to the carnival, I just want to share how completely excited about this – I will be speaking in November at NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) on connecting the classroom with families through social media!
Last night Jerry and I were lucky enough to sign 100 books and be among a talented group of authors at a fundraiser event in New York City at Wollman Rink.
Carnival Night for Kids in Central Park was a literary carnival with amusement park rides, games, magicians, BBQ and readings by children’s book writers: Sue Macy, Sally Lloyd-Jones, Suzanne LaFleur, and us. In a nod to one of my favorite popcorn movies, Music and Lyrics, the teen band Varsity Girls and American Idol contestant Jerome Bell performed.

All proceeds benefited the Coalition for the Homeless’ Youth Service Programs; Camp Homeward Bound, the nation’s first sleepaway camp for homeless children, and Bound for Success, an after-school tutoring program and summer day camp for children living in New York City shelters.
