Maureen Johnson's Brilliant Idea

Don’t miss my offer below!

Now back to our regularly scheduled post…
Where was I? Oh yes, Maureen’s brilliance. And no, I’m not talking about her books, though they are to be admired as well. I’m talking about the brilliance of her getting people aware of Shelterbox. As their site states, “We respond instantly to natural and manmade disasters by delivering boxes of aid to those who are most in need. Each box supplies an extended family of up to 10 people with a tent and essential equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless. We are now firmly established at the forefront of disaster relief and our work constantly earns the respect of outside agencies.”
Maureen is getting tons of people to donate via Shelterbox to the folks in Joplin, MO., after the devastating tornadoes, just as she did after the Japan destruction. She is offering a critique to a randomly drawn donator who tweets to her with the hashtag #starforjoplin. So I just want to tip my hat to Maureen Johnson, not (just) for her awesome books, but for her generous spirit.
Plus, she’s funny and right about writing sucky:

Attempting my own little “I am going to try to follow in Maureen’s big footsteps” prize, I am offering a picture book critique to a randomly drawn person who donates to Shelterbox. Tweet me at @KatieDavisBurps and include your donation amount, and use the tag #shelterboxPB. I give very thorough and honest crits and I usually never do them unless at a conference! Go forth and donate!
