Grammer Pet Peeve

We have all said some version of this:

Cake
Cake

“She wants to have her cake and eat it, too.”
This drives me crazy. Why? Because it makes no sense. Of course you can have your cake and then eat it. People do it every day.
But the expression is about wanting to have everything, whether physics says it’s impossible or not. That is to say, the insurmountable desire is of wanting to eat your cake and yet still having access to that ingested cake.
If I were Seth Godin I would now launch into a business model comparison of alienating your tribe yet still retaining them, but he’s way smarter than I am, so I’m just sticking with the pet peeve angle.
