Yes! Right off your sugar high of yesterday, you can go right into November is Picture Book Month! Celebrate Picture Book Month starting today! Today is the beginning of the annual celebration of Picture Book Month. First of all, Marcie Colleen created this fabulous Teacher’s Guide, so if you are a teacher, please download and use it. It’s jam-packed with great ways to use picture books in the classroom. And here is the downloadable calendar for all the Picture Book Month events, include the podcasts I’ll be doing this month in celebration.
Also, please enjoy this video I produced to celebrate the month. I asked famous authors the question, “What is a picture book?” See all the different poignant, funny, astute ways they answered!
You’ll hear from Caldecott Medalist Jerry Pinkney, Mark Teague, Mercer Mayer, Nick Bruel, Pinkalicious creator Victoria Kann, MacArthur Fellow Peter Sis, Eric Velasquez, Julie Hedlund, Emma Walton Hamilton, Caldecott and Newbery Honoree Tomie dePaola, Alan Katz, Biscuit creator Alyssa Capucilli, Caldecott Medalist Bryan Collier, I Spy creator Jean Marzollo, Newbery Honoree Hudson Talbott, and Wendell Minor.
Thanks, Julie Falatko, for the question.

What a wonderful way to remind us to read with our kids, thank you to my family who loves to read, David and Tori with Skylar, Avery and Luie, and Scott and Nora with Andre, and to groups like PJ Library – Tallahassee, who make books available to families to read together, and our great Miami-Dade Public Library System, and all Libraries in our country.

Libraries rock, and I wish people appreciated them more! So happy to get this comment! Thank you.

What woul I have done without picture books!? As a child, my son was diagnosed with dyslexia. Without the amazing contextual clues of pictures books, he would have had even more hurdles. Oh the wonderful bedtime stories of Berenstain Bears and Carle, Seuss and Mercer Mayer! I am forever grateful.

Picture books are awesome, and I believe to my soul will never, ever, ever go out of style! (And yes, I love tech!)
